Consulate of Mongolia in Hong Kong
Unit 1206, Tower 1, Lippo Centre, 89 Queensway, Admiralty, Hong Kong

бүгдээрээ сайн уу (Hi Everyone)! We were fortunate enough to visit the Consulate of Mongolia and met their Vice Consul, Zorig Telmuun.
The consulate was established in 2011, with strong connections being established over the last 12 years between Hong Kong and Mongolia. Even before the establishment of the consulate, flights began between Ulaanbaatar (Capital of Mongolia) and Hong Kong, laying the foundation for further cooperation. Although many Mongolians use Hong Kong as a transfer hub for popular travel destinations such as Australia, India, and Southeast Asia, Mongolian tourists still maintain a vibrant presence in Hong Kong.
Although the Mongolian population in Hong Kong is comparatively small, with approximately 100 Mongolian residents living here, the Mongolian consulate critically serves many interests in Hong Kong. As Hong Kong is a financial center, Mongolia sees Hong Kong as a gateway to international trade, taking part in the stock exchange and investing in mineral resources. The Mongolian consulate also aims to foster relationships between the tight-knit Mongolian community and the broader community, alongside spreading their culture through events such as Asia Culture Week.
Vice Consul Telmuun spent his high school years in Washington, before returning to Mongolia for his bachelors and then Shanghai for his masters. Noticing his knack for picking up languages and his interest in foreign policy, he eventually chose this career path after much consideration. Vice Consul Telmuun gives a few pieces of advice for aspiring diplomats. First, he suggests knowing a minimum of 2 languages besides the native language that you speak. Second, he recommends that you are diligent, not only in knowing your own history and culture, but that of other countries as well. Most importantly, however, he explains that you must be genuinely passionate in representing your country.
We are honored by Vice Consul Telmuun and the Consulate of Mongolia for having us, and we hope to be back soon!
