Consulate of Pakistan in Hong Kong
801-03, Shui On Centre, 6-8 Harbour Rd, Wan Chai, Hong Kong

We were lucky enough to be able to visit the Consulate of Pakistan and speak to the Deputy Consul General Amjad! Pakistan and Hong Kong share a vibrant and multifaceted relationship, marked by a strong cultural presence and potential for economic collaboration.
With over 43,000 Pakistani nationals residing in Hong Kong, they serve as cultural ambassadors, enriching the local landscape through cuisine, traditions, and community engagement. Notable initiatives include two university projects aimed at promoting Pakistani culture. Trade is a significant aspect of this relationship, with current trade volumes over $200 million, though the potential is estimated to reach $10 billion. Key imports include halal products, fruits, vegetables, and textiles, as efforts are made to enhance trade and investment opportunities.
Tourism also plays a crucial role, with both Pakistan and Hong Kong having unique landscapes and cultural offerings. The Pakistani government’s initiative to allow visa-free entry for citizens from 126 countries aims to further boost tourism. The consulate in Hong Kong provides essential consular services while focusing on strengthening ties between Pakistan and Hong Kong through economic and cultural diplomacy. The hospitality industry thrives, with many Pakistani-owned restaurants contributing to the local economy and cultural exchange.
The welcoming attitude of both the local Hong Kongers and the government towards ethnic minorities fosters a sense of belonging for Pakistanis in the region. Moreover, the personal journey of Amjad highlights the pride and joy of representing one’s country abroad. His experiences reflect a deep commitment to cultural exchange as well as the promotion of Pakistan’s diverse achievements, and to also mention his endless encouragement of having others support the Pakistani Cricket team.
